Throughout the R8 System, we will draw on Shawn Achor's The Happiness Advantage. In his book, he lays out "Principles of Positive Psychology that Fuel Success and Performance at Work." Individuals must reflect on their conduct in a positive way with the understanding that they can change.
Brains are malleable and with work, can transform positively.
Although Achor does not address abuse or bullying in any sort of direct way, his evidence-based argument for positive mindset, openness to possibility, social investment are all crucial tenets of a non-abusive or bullying environment. They speak to the growth mindset encapsulated in R8's re-educate and rehabilitate.
Shawn Achor's approach is a concise way to organize and construct a transformative system like R8.
Jennifer Fraser chose it because of his reference to extensive, rigorous neuroscientific or psychological research to back up his prescription for happiness.
A toxic organizational environment, infected with bullying and abuse, is the opposite of happiness.
By starting with exercises that shift your individuals and organization’s mindset from bullying and abuse into empathy and compassion, you will be well-prepared to work through the case studies. It's all about relationships and how we respond to one another.
An organizational culture that is built on relationships of mutual respect should not shy away from safe, anonymous reporting which reverses trends toward dismissing, ignoring and covering-up.
